Your Guide To 12 Of The Best Sustainable Bed Sheets & Eco Friendly Duvet Sets

What feels even better than clean sheet night? Cozying up in sheets you know were made fairly, ethically and sustainably.

There are many different ways we can consume consciously, in many different areas of our homes - sustainable bed sheets is one of them!

We’ve done the research for you, and included cost ranges, materials, locations, and even return options below. When researching these brands, it was clear most bedding companies mention their sustainability and carbon footprint, but are more vague (or don’t even mention) around their ethics. Everything is made by or with the help of a human being, so we think it’s important to know that everyone in the supply chain is treated with respect.

We’ve done our best to ensure ethics and sustainability have been considered, but as always, not all of these brands are perfect. The best thing you can do is make a carefully considered choice, wash your sustainable bed sheets and eco friendly duvet sets according to their care instructions, and repair them throughout their lifetime.

Whether you’re a fan of linen, or swear by organic cotton, this is a compilation of brands who care about how they are producing ethical bedding.. and we think you’ll sleep better for it!

Note: Some of these brands are brand partners or have worked with us in the past. This blog is not sponsored and created freely by Kate and Georgia (my sister and PA).

Kate’s review: We purchased a fitted linen sheet; it’s beautiful. The only thing my husband, Tim, doesn’t love, is how linen stretches a little. After about 6 months, it’s slightly baggier on our mattress. I don’t mind this at all, but he likes the bottom sheet to be super tight with no bunches! I think organic cotton is best if you are like Tim. We also adore the eco friendly duvet sets - such brilliant bold colours to make the bedroom pop.

Kate’s review: One of my favourite sustainable bed sheet brands. The flannel sheets (pictured above with our old pup enjoying a sleep in) are brilliant for winter, the sateen sheets are an all-year-round staple, and the jersey sheets are great but not our preference (they’re slightly more stretchy than we prefer).

Georgia’s Review: For the last few years I have exclusively bought secondhand bedding. It is ridiculously affordable and an ethical way to consume, plus I have some super beautiful and good quality items! Some people think bedding is taking secondhand shopping a step too far… but after a wash, it’s good as new!

Sustainable Bed Sheets & Eco Friendly Duvet Sets Q&A

What materials are used in ethical and sustainable bedding?

Sustainable bed sheets and eco-friendly duvet sets are often made from materials like organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, and linen, which are grown with minimal pesticides and water. Organic cotton, in particular, is a popular choice as it’s soft, durable, and free from harmful chemicals. Linen and hemp are also top options due to their natural durability and minimal environmental impact, while bamboo offers a soft, breathable feel and is highly renewable. Ethical bedding made from these materials supports lower-impact production and helps create a healthier sleeping environment.

What certifications should I look for in sustainable duvets?

When choosing sustainable bedding, look for certifications like GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), which ensures organic fibres and fair labor practices, or OEKO-TEX, which tests for harmful substances. For sustainable duvet sets, Cradle to Cradle and Fair Trade certifications can also indicate responsible production and ethical labor practices. These certifications provide assurance that your eco-friendly duvet set has been produced with strict environmental and ethical standards.

How do I care for organic or sustainable duvets?

To care for sustainable bed sheets and eco-friendly duvet sets, wash with cold water and eco-friendly detergent, as hot water can degrade natural fibres over time. Hang-drying is ideal for sustainable bedding, as it reduces energy use and prolongs fabric life, though gentle, low-heat machine drying works for some materials. By using mild products and low-impact washing methods, you can help your ethical bedding stay in great shape while reducing your environmental footprint.
