7 Cozy Sustainable Fluffy Dressing Gown Alternatives To Polyester
Now that I know most fluffy dressing gowns are made from plastic, I can't stand the sight of them. I re-homed my old bath robe (which was my late Nana's) and now opt for cosy knits instead of fluffy dressing gowns. But I don't want to be a party pooper; I know some of you still adore an organic cotton robe or fluffy dressing gown to cuddle up in.
If you already own a synthetic bath robe, look after it and spot wash it to avoid washing it (synthetic clothing emits microplastics when in the wash). But if you're like me and don't want to hang out in plastic and/or lack a fluffy dressing gown but also don't want to compromise on ethical and environmental principles, I got you.
In this blog post I'll explore sustainable alternatives that not only keep you warm and snug but also align with your sustainable values. From womens fluffy dressing gowns to organic cotton robes from eco-friendly materials, I've curated a selection of conscious choices that prioritize fair labor practices and sustainable sourcing.
What you need to know before reading this:
Price ranges are in New Zealand dollars.
The size range refers to women’s fluffy dressing gown options (some brands have different sizes for their other products).
‘Made in’ refers to where the sustainable bath robe is made, not inclusive of where the fabric is made.
None of these brands are perfectly ethical. No brand, or person, is.
Sustainable Dressing Gown Q&A
What are bath robes usually made from?
A classic bath robe is made from polyester; plastic. That’s why I made this blog, to show you fluffy dressing gown options that still fulfil the snuggly need but aren’t made from plastic. The options above are mainly organic cotton robes but some are made from wool or recycled polyester (which is still plastic, but I wanted to give you options).
Are sustainable fluffy dressing gowns as soft and cosy as polyester ones?
I cannot vouch for all sustainable womens fluffy dressing gowns but I can say that the sustainable dressing gowns I have tried on have been incredibly cosy! I understand there is a particular feel to polyester that some people love, but when you realise that it’s actually just plastic, it’s likely you’ll find just as much comfort, if not more, in an organic cotton robe instead. If you’re still looking for cosy garments, read my sustainable track pants blog here or my guide to sustainable sweater brands.
Can sustainable dressing gowns be washed easily?
Yes! One of my main reasons for offering a list of sustainable fluffy dressing gowns predominantly made from organic cotton is to ensure that when you wash your bath robe that it will not emit microplastics into the water ways. You can read all about this issue here. Make sure you read the care instructions on your sustainable dressing gown before washing it and try your best to spot wash when possible to ensure it lasts for as long as possible.
