Where To Shop For Sustainable & Eco Friendly Products In New Zealand

Purchasing eco-friendly products for your home that involve less waste and are sustainably sourced, is a great way to reduce your personal footprint and look after this beautiful planet we inhabit. But too often sustainable living is really freaking difficult.

One of my main frustrations is having to purchase different products from so many different stores! The packaging, even though it’s compostable or recyclable, is excessive when you order individual items from different sites, and the cost of individual shipping often makes purchases unachievable too.

That’s why I think places like EcoWarehouse are life changers.

EcoWarehouse have been on my radar since September 2019, and they continue to be one of my go-to stores for most things that I need.

“We work hard to provide a huge range of sustainable and eco-friendly products available to everyone. Our goal is to reduce waste and limit the harm “conventional” items may have on our planet. We believe that each person should do their best to work within their ability to reduce their impact on our Earth.” - EcoWarehouse.

Plasters (or Bandaids, whatever you call them!), hot water bottles, candles, toothbrushes, essential oils, makeup, hair ties, camping coffee cups, fermenting kits, hemp soap saver bags (my current favourite in the shower), DIY yoghurt makers, or even recycled newspaper colour pencils… EcoWarehouse are on their way to becoming one of the biggest eco shops I have ever discovered in Aotearoa New Zealand. I love it!

I’ve always wanted an eco alternative to places like Amazon or Kmart, and EcoWarehouse are the closest to it.

It would be easy to believe EcoWarehouse was created by a huge team of people, with marketing experts and strategic business people; yet they’re founded and run by a family - who are all of these things in one! Dunja and Serge are the driving forces behind EcoWarehouse, running the store with their wonderful kids in tow. They decide if a product should be in the store by assessing if they match EcoWarehouse’s values:

  • Made of recyclable materials or is recyclable

  • Contains no toxins or harmful ingredients

  • Compostable or biodegradable

  • Fairly traded or Fairtrade certified

  • Low/no dependance on oil

  • Cruelty free

Having trialled many of EcoWarehouse’s products over the years (read my old blog here), I understand that Dunja and Serge are particular in the products they choose and stick to this list vigorously. My most recent purchase was a wooden nail brush so people will stop telling me how gross my nails look after I’ve been in the garden! A few favourite EcoWarehouse products are their PATCH Plasters, Essential Oils, Hot Water Bottle, and Dental Floss.

Here’s why I love them and why I think they would be helpful in your home too…

Bamboo Plasters

PATCH Strips are my go-to for plasters. I’ve used them since 2018 and compost them in my home compost. I have never found them when I turn my compost or put it on my garden, so they truly do break down! They stick to your skin just like normal plasters (slightly less sticky than some, but still durable), and are suitable for sensitive skin too.

Eco Hot Water Bottle

If you don’t like the usual strong smell of hot water bottles (me either), and you’re looking for something that’s long lasting (the family who own EcoWarehouse have had their’s for 5+ years), this could be the right hot water bottle for you. It’s 2 litres, holds heat for 6-8 hours, and is made from plant based materials. With a two year leak warranty, this hot water bottles is pretty great bang-for-buck. The hot water bottle looks hard when cold, but becomes soft when filled with hot water. I haven’t yet tried it in the depths of winter, so I’m looking forward to snuggling up!

Fermentation Kit

Can you see the excitement in my face?! This was the first time I used my fermentation kit - oh what fun! Turns out, you can pretty much ferment any type of vegetable, using some mixed spices and salt (they come with the kit) and this awesome fermentation kit. Fermented vegetables are so good for your gut health, plus when you eat a lot of vegetables, it’s great to have flavour and texture options!

Essential Oils

I love essential oils for making perfumes and room sprays that spruce up a room (especially the bathroom!). They’re ideal for popping into your laundry too, or even on a reusable handkerchief for a fresh pop of scent when you need it! I mix lavender and lemon for a bathroom spray, and do a different mix every time I will up my little roller ball that I keep in my handbag. I use the roller ball on the temples of my head and my wrists, as a way to smell nice but also a meditative gesture that reminds me to calm down.

Bamboo Dental Eco Floss With Charcoal

To be honest, I’m not super fussy with dental floss. I have tried most eco dental flosses (that are home compostable like this one) and have never found a problem with them. But my husband, Tim, continued to complain about how our floss would break in-between his teeth when flossing. Until now…

The Eco Warehouse Dental Floss passes his test! It doesn’t break in-between teeth and you can refill the floss vile when it runs out!

As you can tell, Eco Warehouse’s range of products is impressive. Their dedication to only good products is admirable, they ship their products plastic free, and I love supporting this wonderful family owned business.

When you’re next looking for an eco option for something you need, you’ll most likely find it at EcoWarehouse!

As a rule, I only work with brands I love, use, and can whole heartedly back. I send the brand a large list of questions to answer first, and trial the product properly before saying yes to anything. This is a sponsored blog (I can't pay my electricity bill with free products), but 100% my own words, photos, and opinion.
