Why You Should 'Ditch The Bottle' And Try Washing Your Hair With A Bar
Running a bar of soap through your long, thick locks, is not an easy concept to (literally) get your head around.
But here’s what I think: you should!
One of the first switches I made when jumping on the eco-living bandwagon (the best bandwagon to be on FYI), was my shampoo and conditioner. Learning about the chemicals in even the most ‘eco-friendly’ products, and seeing the amount of plastic bottles in the ocean and landfill (which didn’t make it to the recycling bin- plus recycling still takes resources to turn into another product), forced me to make the change.
To begin with: it was awkward. It felt super strange and it seemed the product would never get deep into my roots; my hair felt greasy and gross. But after determination, practice, and just a few weeks, I was out the other side of my ‘shampoo-crisis’, and loving the bottle free life.
Why did I choose Ethique in the first place? They are…

I’ve used Ethique since mid 2016. To date, I’ve reduced the amount I wash my hair (usually 1-2 times a week), and don’t think twice about the fact I rub a bar of soap through my hair instead of the usual pump bottles.
Before you jump on board and try a bar, it’s important to note that all hair is different. I use the Heali Kiwi Shampoo and Guardian Conditioner, but your hair may respond differently. Ethique offer a sampler box for you to trial their hair products before you invest. If none of them work for you, then check out other bar options. I would be highly surprised if this happened! My Choice Of Shampoo Bars:
I question I get asked a lot: how do you travel with Ethique? Below is a few snaps of my Ethique filled tin in a few locations I’ve stayed at over the past three weeks throughout Australia. As you can see, I cut the bars with a sharp knife so they fit in my container. I usually cut off how much I think I’ll need (this is PLENTY though, not a reflection of 4 weeks worth of travel).

I considered cleaning up my tin and making it look beautiful for you to see… but screw that. This is my reality, and it works!
To keep the bars dry and healthy, I dry them on two pieces of toilet paper, or simply dab them on my towel after a shower and put them back in the tin. Keeping them dry is key, so the tin doesn’t leak in my bag. I’ve never had a problem with this.
Ethique have a huge range of body products, even dog shampoo! I also adore their Gingersnap Face Scrub pictured below. I’ll do another review on all their products soon, as there’s some that don’t work for me, and others I love.
